Thirty minutes from Cape Town, lie
the Winelands, a haven of gracious white-gabled
farmsteads evoking a rich heritage. Nothing compares
to sampling, firsthand, the result of an art distilled
to perfection over centuries, and every wine estate
we visit will invite you to indulge in the fruits
of its people's labour.
Traveling towards Stellenbosch,
we first visit Spier Wine Estate (1692) to also
see one of the best classical Cape-Dutch Buildings
in this area. We travel to Blaauwklippen to enjoy
a wine cellar tour at 11h00, followed by the first
winetasting for the day.
Our next stop is in Stellenbosch,
the second oldest town in South Africa, and also
the wine capital of South Africa. We explore the
historic "Dorp Street" and pop into "Oom
Samie se Winkel" for 'n taste of "ou wêreldse"
(old world) shopping before we leave Stellenbosch.
From here we head for the charming wine town of
Franschhoek, set in a protected valley surrounded
by breathtaking mountains. Franschhoek was granted
to the French Huguenots who arrived in 1688.
Travelling towards Paarl, we visit
Fairview where we sample some of the finest wines
and the superb selection of goat's milk cheeses,
produced on this farm. From here we head back to
your Cape Town Hotel or Guest House.
